OWI Process
ELEVATE HELPS NAVIGATE THE OWI PROCESS
You have recently been convicted of operating while under the influence. Elevate’s OWI program will assist you with:
Obtaining and maintaining your driving privileges
Providing awareness and education while addressing any substance use issues
What is an IDP assessment?
The assessment is the first piece of the court-ordered process. An Intoxicated Driver assessment is an about an hour long interview between a driver and an assessor. The assessor examines the driver’s alcohol/drug use. As part of the assessment, the assessor develops a Driver Safety Plan for the driver which is the second step that needs to be completed to remain compliant with the WisDOT. These two steps are required by the DOT.
When is an assessment required?
Anyone convicted of operating while intoxicated (OWI) or a driving under the influence (DUI) related offense is required to contact the approved assessment facility.
You have 72 hours (3 business days) after your OWI conviction to schedule an assessment with the designated assessment agency (Elevate is the designated facility for Washington County). Failure to schedule an assessment within the 72 you will be put into non compliance with the DOT. Which means all licenses are suspended/revoked/canceled, including occupational licenses. The individual will be in noncompliance with the WisDOT until they complete their assessment.
Where will the appointment be located?
All assessments will be IN PERSON appointments. Please make proper arrangements when scheduling your appointment.
We are located at 1626 Clarence Court, West Bend, WI 53095. Follow the parking lot down to the lower level.
What fees are involved?
The fee for a Driver Safety Assessment is $290.00. This fee must be paid in full at the time of scheduling. Credit/debit cards and cash are accepted forms of payment.
Additional fees may be incurred if we need to file amended paperwork, extend your driver safety plan, or file reinstatement paperwork.
What is a Driver Safety Plan?
A Driver Safety Plan (DSP) is developed based upon results of the assessment. It may consist of one of the following: education (classes), treatment, and/or other appropriate programs. The Drivers Safety Plan must be completed within one year.
Can I get my occupational driver's license?
Most first offenses can get their occupational driver’s licenses before the assessment. However, they must check with the DMV because the decision is up to them. Second and subsequent OWI convictions require completion of an assessment before receiving eligibility for an occupational license.
What if I can't keep my appointment?
This should be considered a permanent appointment, however if you must reschedule or cancel your appointment due to an emergency, to avoid a penalty fee, we require 48 hours notice. If you fail to appear for your scheduled appointment, you will need to repay the assessment fee of 290.00 Please call 262-677-2249 for current information on additional fees
