Every year, thousands of lives are lost because of a dangerous drug called fentanyl. It’s a problem that affects people of all ages, backgrounds, and neighborhoods, including right here in our community. That’s why taking the time to learn about this devastating drug and what we can all do is key to help save lives.
At Elevate, we believe in building healthier, safer communities. We work every day to support people living with substance use and mental health challenges. Part of our mission is to educate others, provide resources, and offer hope to anyone who needs it. National Fentanyl Awareness Day is celebrated every year, and is a reminder of why this work matters.
What Is Fentanyl?
Fentanyl is a strong man-made opioid. Doctors sometimes use it to help people with serious pain, like after surgery. But fentanyl is very dangerous when it’s made and sold illegally. It’s much stronger than other opioids, like heroin or prescription pain pills. In fact, just a tiny amount — about the size of a few grains of salt — can be deadly.
The scariest part is that many people don’t even know they’re taking fentanyl. It’s often mixed into other drugs like fake pain pills, heroin, or cocaine. People might think they’re taking something else, but it could contain fentanyl without them knowing.
Why It Matters to Us
In recent years, fentanyl-related overdoses have been rising fast across the country. Families are losing loved ones too soon. Friends, parents, and neighbors are grieving people they thought were okay.
Here in our community, we’ve seen how fentanyl affects real people, and we’ve made it our mission to help support individuals and families facing addiction and mental health struggles. We offer counseling, group support, and recovery services to help people heal and build better futures.
By spreading the word about fentanyl, we can help prevent overdoses and save lives. The more people know about the risks, the more we can protect our families and neighborhoods.
How You Can Help
Everyone can do something to fight this problem. Here are a few ways you can get involved:
Learn the facts. Understand what fentanyl is and how dangerous it can be.
Talk with your family and friends. Share what you’ve learned, especially with young people.
Carry Naloxone. This medicine can reverse an opioid overdose and save a life. You pick up Naloxone at (Elevate Jackson office & Elevate West Bend office) or visit your local pharmacy or community health center.
Support those in recovery. Encourage loved ones who are struggling and remind them they’re not alone.
Together, We Can Make a Difference
